Dit hulpmiddel kan worden gebruikt met inhaleerbare anesthetica. Het hulpmiddel zorgt voor een toereikende uitwisseling van zuurstof (O2) en koolstofdioxide (CO2) bij de patiënt om normale bloedgasconcentraties in stand te houden en daarbij de juiste hoeveelheden anesthetica toe te dienen. Het hulpmiddel biedt een mechanische en gecontroleerde toediening van beademingsgas aan de patiënt. Het is tevens voorzien van alarmen die waarschuwen bij veranderingen in het ademhalingspatroon van de patiënt of zodra onveilige gebruiksomstandigheden ontstaan.
